R22 refrigerant is an environmental danger refrigerant type because it contributes to the depletion of the ozone layer.
The boiling point of R22 is -40.8 °C. Due to its low boiling point this refrigerant was initial developed for the low temperature applications like domestic freezers and in industrial refrigeration applications.
One of the most common uses of R22 is in the domestic air conditioners like window AC, split AC, packaged AC and also in number of central air conditioning systems. R22 is non-toxic and it is non-flammable that makes this refrigerant highly safe for the domestic and industrial purposes.
As a result of the Montreal Protocol 1987 to phase out ozone depletion gaseous, R22 will no longer be manufactured in sooner time and cannot be used as a refrigerant in future A/C systems. R22 is being replaced by R-410A, a safer material which is the current, compliant standard refrigerant in air conditioning equipment.
